Default Will Post when I find out

I just sent SMUD an email asking if they have planned maintenance for Ice House this year and if so, if they will accommodate a boating release like the previous three years. If they have the water and there is a maintenance scheduled I am sure they will do it. They have been incredible supplying water this year outside of a final license being granted from FERC. We continue to enjoy weekend water which SMUD is providing not because they are required to but because they know what it means to whitewater boaters. Go enjoy the Feather release this coming weekend also.
Thanks, SMUD!!!

Last year they released for 10 days, but because they started on Monday there was only water on 1 weekend. If they had started on a Friday we could have had water for 2 weekends....that would be nice for us working stiffs.
Maybe they could check the South Feather schedule to see how it's done.

Angry No Ice House releases this year

I just heard back from SMUD and they do not have any planned releases out of Ice House for this year. This letdown underscores the importance of getting involved in the relicense process. When FERC assigns SMUD the new license, there will be set release schedules for all water year types. SMUD has honored the negotiated releases for water on the Lower UARP of the Settlement Negotiation for the last two years but this is outside of a FERC final relicense and doing so is very generous on SMUD's part.
If you did Fordyce or Canyon Creek please fill out the response forms at

There is also a Middle Fork relicense going on now where the Rubicon is at stake.
Given the current and likely future climatic conditions in California it is even more important to get involved in these relicenses. I have a list of all current and future relicenses in the US if anyone is interested-send me a PM and I will forward it or do a FERC search on their website.
AW continues to be an organization dedicated to negotiating in these licenses so I would suggest joining or renewing your memberships-it's only $35 and you get a great magazine as a bonus.
