The positive atmosphere and energy has always been the great part of this day. The Cherry Creek Race has, over time, become a fun event at a time of year when it's great to get together and paddle the Creek one last time to celebrate the end of summer. As far as my commitment to the Race goes....I'll always want to saddle up and race these lines for as along as I can muster. And I'll always be willing to bring a keg of "cold" beer to toast the day and my friends at the take out. Never-the-less, and speaking only for myself (which means I'm not speaking for Barry) I believe this race or event or part...whatever we call it...needs some new blood. I do think it's come time for some one else to reinvent or re-format this race / party. However, if next year comes around and no one wants to orchestrate the race, then certainly, I'll always be willing to throw a picnic and help coordinate the times. In spite of this, I do believe it's time for some kind of new evolution for this event. Anyway, thanks for letting me be a part of this day for the last 11 years and believe me when I say it'll always generate good memories and smiles for me. Sincerely, Tim Hagan The First Annual Captain Kirk race, dreamed up by Moss Quaglia and Mark Hayden, was held in 1994. It has grown from a few racers and a six pack of beer to as many as 25 (I think) and thanks to Tim, tons of food and beer and even a band (twice)! I have been involved with keeping this race going and evolving for the last 11 years, and I agree with Tim in all of the above. I would like to see it go to the next level, but somehow still maintain the spirit of brotherly and sisterly love, and reflect the bonds of friendship that this particularly beautiful stretch of whitewater has built. -Peace and Love- Barry Huseby |
