    Default South Silver

Low snowpack in the Sierra, highs in the 70s & lows in the 50s this weekend...Anyone think the South Silver will be running? If it is, it won't last long this year...Has anyone been up there this season?

Judging from the snowpack we saw driving around at 3,000-4,000' on Monday, it's hard to image there isn't still a good bit of snow up at South Silver. Running maybe, but access is another story.

Just got back slushboarding at Sierra-at-Tahoe. Horsetail falls on pyramind creek is going pretty good. I would be a little worried South Silver is too high.

    Default Take 2

So, two-plus weeks later, anyone have an idea if South Silver is (a) running and (b) accessible? I may not even make it myself, but a friend from Idaho is trying to time a roadtrip and would like to catch the S. Silver...

    Thanks!

Judging from the way the melt has been going, it looks like it will come in this weekend or sometime in the middle of the following week (possibly on the high side) and will probably drop out within a week of that.

That's a pretty short window. How long does it normally last?

How long it lasts is a question that hinges intierally on the snow pack. ive been in Cali 7 seasons know and not one year has been the same :( I suspect Gavin is correct given the predicted up comming temps. it will be "in" for about 6-9 days, with the first couple of days on the "high side " of good. I live about 30 miles away and intend to go up next Tuesday in hopes of catching it.
just my 2 cents take it for what its worth

Boomer, any idea if the putin road is open yet? I heard that it was closed as of a couple weeks ago or so.

Gavin, I think you should be fine. Remember that I do not believe that an arangement or agreement was ever made regarding use of the putin road and that the Park service will still be issuing tickets

Where do most people park to avoid tickets?

(I still haven't been up there but I want to check it out this year if it's still going around May 24th.)
