Would someone be willing to post what playspots on the Rogue (Nugget or Raygold or other) are in at what flows and on what gauges? Thanks, Darin

View Full Version : Rogue Playspots DarinM 09-05-2005, 11:11 AM Would someone be willing to post what playspots on the Rogue (Nugget or Raygold or other) are in at what flows and on what gauges? Thanks, Darin Gabe 09-07-2005, 11:02 PM I don't know about nugget. But I like Gold Ray. Especially at levels above 2650. The range is between 2200 and 3000. But I think it gets a little sketchy below 2650(broken paddle/hittin' rocks) 2850 is a real good level. Just stay off the fish ladder and surrounding property. Anonymous 09-08-2005, 01:37 PM The mine wave, just below sundance, is decent surf at 1500 to 3000 (all flows = G.P. gage unlewss otherwise stated). The telephone hole (wild and scenic section, below horseshoe bend) is good at ~2000. The previously fantastic upper black bar ender spot has apparently seen it's demise due to some shifts in the river bed. And the clay hill playholes are good at the lower flows, ~1500 at Agness. Nugget, I've only been in at GP flows of ~1500. Seemed pretty good at that flow. DarinM 09-12-2005, 09:00 AM Slim, thanks for all the info. I had no idea there were other playspots than Gold Ray and Nugget. I have no idea where they are. (I need something to do now that Schoolhouse is washed out) Any more specific information on the mine wave and clay hill spots? I'm from just over the border (Scott Valley) and somewhat know the area but not too well. Thanks, Darin North Coast Boating http://darinm.blogspot.com Anonymous 09-12-2005, 09:27 AM Contact sundance kayak school for directions to the mine wave. Or just drive to galice, ask where almeda park is, put in, and thewave's at the bottom of the first riffle. Telephone hole and clay hill are too damned complicated to give directions over the internet, but U can look them up on the USFS map of the rogue. Clay hill holes are at the top of clay hill rapid. They used to be better at summer flows, but have shifted a bit. Anonymous 09-15-2005, 01:26 AM I would not bother driving from Scotts Valley for the mine wave. It is really not surfable with current playboats. As for the telephone hole and clayhill wave...they are located on the Wild section and are accessable by a 1 and 2 day float respectively. I would never consider them to be the prime reason for a Canyon run. Was the school house wave not forming this season? Bummer. DarinM 09-15-2005, 08:17 AM Schoolhouse was in, but flows just got ramped up for the fish and washed it out. |
