Charlie Walbridge will be one of twenty nationally known instructors at the whitewater symposium, to be held in Glenwood Springs October 8-10. Walbridge is well known worldwide as a foremost instructor of river rescue, having literally written the whitewater River Safety Anthology. Continuing the tradition of reporting close calls and deaths on the rivers of North America, the report is based on the belief that an educated paddler will make better decisions. Walbridge also is a principal in the DVD Whitewater Self-Defense which helps kayakers avoid trouble and deal with unexpected problems with an emphasis on everyday river safety skills every whitewater paddler should know. His book the Whitewater Rescue Manual: New Techniques for Canoeists, Kayakers, and Rafters looks at both the hard and the soft sides of river rescue, placing equal emphasis on group organization, judgment, self-rescue, and rope handling to give a balanced picture of how to avoid accidents and how to deal with them when they happen.
The Whitewater symposium focus is on generating new ideas to support the continued health of whitewater boating through building and maintaining the quality of instruction and promoting a positive media image of the sport. The Symposium is a meeting of the minds that helps take kayaking into the future. It’s a stimulating and exhilarating event you will not want to miss!
