A bunch of 4WD folks said the road was supposed to be plowed last weekend. Anybody had a look? (assuming gate will be open once so)

View Full Version : Fordyce gate open? Anonymous 06-01-2005, 12:44 PM A bunch of 4WD folks said the road was supposed to be plowed last weekend. Anybody had a look? (assuming gate will be open once so) Anonymous 06-09-2005, 12:58 PM Bueller? Anonymous 06-09-2005, 04:49 PM Beuller? Anonymous 06-09-2005, 04:49 PM Anybody? Greg in Reno 06-09-2005, 11:02 PM Are you still here? Go home! The movie is over! Anonymous 06-10-2005, 06:46 PM Gate still locked, sounds like one more week Anonymous 06-10-2005, 09:45 PM AROD SUCKS!!!! GO BOSTON!!!! Anonymous 06-19-2005, 08:35 AM go home you masshole Anonymous 06-20-2005, 09:08 AM been there half a dozen times didnt even know there was a gate... Anonymous 06-20-2005, 09:10 AM oh I see the gate at the takeout...its not too long of a walk. Takes like 15 mins Anonymous 06-20-2005, 10:32 AM fyi-the last 8 posts have been useless. the gate on the way to the PUT-IN. yes, there is a gate. yes, it's closed. PG&E apparently opened the gate briefly, and some folks got in there, but then they closed it. lame since they will probably open it when the guy at the dam hooks up his 4WD buddies by dropping the flows back to 200 cfs for the whole summer. Anonymous 06-20-2005, 04:12 PM Ok...so that means that the first "Bueller" post was valid.....gotcha One thing to consider regarding road closures is that the USFS probably doesn't want all those aforementioned 4wd bleepety bleeps driving around in the woods during springtime, when erosive damage to the system from that activity is most likely to cause big damage.... Anyone have the real (Official) rationale for keeping this closed? Anonymous 06-20-2005, 04:40 PM I have checked the gate three times this month.Last time on the 14th. Even if one was to find a way around the gate as we may have they would have been stopped by snow banks about 1.5 miles up the road this late snow may be the reason for the closure. There were deep 4x4 tracks in the snow banks so some one has been in. Anonymous 06-21-2005, 09:13 AM road still closed due to deep snow drifts as of this am per pg&e thehedonist 06-21-2005, 11:44 PM i just hiked in to fordyce lake yesterday. the gate was open for the first time that i noticed. we were able to drive to within about 2.5 miles of the lake due to deep snow on the road. i talked to some guys who were staying at the cabin out there. they said they were working on the dam for the summer. their plans are to drain as much out of the lake as possible right now and hopefully shut the flow off for the summer in order to finish working on the dam. he didn't give me any idea as to when that might be though. he said they picked a bad year to work on the dam because of all of the water. bottom line though, the road was open as of yesterday, the 20th and you would have a 2.5 to 3 mile hike to the put in, but it might be worth it since there may not be many runnable flows this summer. Anonymous 06-23-2005, 04:02 PM Well gang it should be about 4 bills through the fourth of July weekend. PGE is supposed to work on the dam this summer, the outflow. So they are not draining Fordyce lake. The only reason it is still realeasing is due to upstream water coming in. After the 4th I will update the current schedule, unfortunately it is based solely on the inflow to Fordyce lake and not on a schedule. Spaulding is releasing 200 so she is on the way out!!! Still so much snow on North facing slopes above 7500 |
