I would highly recommend checking into EJ's new line of Kayaks... Yes I am the rep, but the truth is depending on your ladies size, the Fun series of boats are designed with a major emphasis on easy to roll, comfy, and to be a good river runner/playboat.

Check out the size chart but if she is smaller, the 2 Fun (up to 120lbs) could be just right or I would imagine that the Fun (next size up) is good for her up to about 160Lbs.

They will be coming out in the first week of April.

If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line...

A river runner might be a better first boat than
a playboat. Just my 2c!

I agree, a river runner is much easier than a playboat. I started off with a Big EZ as a beginner, and learned later that a river runner would have been much better for me, especially the first time I did the Gorge.
Many people told me that the Big EZ was stable and all this other stuff, but for a beginner, it is NOT stable compared to a river runner.
Maybe they forgot what it was like to be a beginner, or were just rattling off what they heard other people say.
Advice is cheap, and most of it is wrong unless it comes from people who really know.

I think it depends on each person. I learned in a Siren and I found that it's easy to roll. I got the confidence I wanted and was able to paddle class III and class IV.

Every other boat was too big for me or to wide.

I tried other boats that were bigger, but I found them too overwhelming.
