Instructors needed: Reno Kids Kayak Camp 2008
Sierra Nevada Outdoors (SNO)
2nd Annual Reno Kids Kayak Camp / July 8 - 11th, 2008
Two Instructor positions open: Certified instructors needed for four day kayak camp in Reno Nevada. Requirements include prior experience working with kids in an outdoor environment; Current first aid and CPR cards; Current ACA whitewater kayak instructor card; Attend two camp training sessions in Reno scheduled June 17th and 24th at 7 PM at SNO.
There are some new and exciting changes for the 2nd Annual Reno Kids Kayak Camp, including a newly integrated/updated curriculum available to the instructors by the end of May. Two, two hour, evening camp meetings are scheduled in June for staff, instructors and volunteers to cover the entire curriculum along with logistics, schedules and timing, staff/volunteer assignments, and safety and emergency plans.
Camp for 2008 has implemented components of the new Paddle Safe Paddle Smart (PS2) educational curriculum from the ACA, now available for study/reading, from SNO and/or the ACA.
We are expecting full registration with up to 16 kids this year, with four lead kayak instructors, comprising an instructor to student ratio of 1:4, and additional volunteer safety kayakers, each day, totaling a staff to student ratio of 1:2.6 at all times during the camp. This is consistent with Camp safety, educational, and experiential goals for 2008.
SNO is hiring for two certified kayak instructors’ for the camp at this time, as well as volunteers to assist as camp aids, safety kayakers, and bus drivers.
To apply for the Instructor positions, please send resume via email with “Kids Kayak Camp Instructor Application” in the subject line. SNO will reply to those applicants deemed most appropriate. SNO is also asking for volunteers as camp aids, kayak safety boaters, and bus/vehicle drivers. Volunteers are asked to phone SNO with your interests in assisting with the camp.
