What section of the eel are you looking to run? The 1st to 3rd of July is a long wayh off and it may not be running. Did you mean June?
Let me know

I’m going to Ukiah to visit my brother for 4th of July, Just over 1 month from now. Looking at "The Best Whitewater in California" my choices are:
1. Russian River, Squaw Rock Run. (This is at brother’s front door).
2. Eel River, Pillsbury Run.
3. Trinity River, Pigeon Point Run.
4. Trinity River, Burnt Ranch Gorge.
The Trinity River is as far north that I would want to go. I just got a diesel and will be doing my first class V this weekend, so Burnt Ranch Gorge may be pushing it a bit.
My brother is not a kayaker buts says there is a ton of runs in the area. What I am trying to do is find someone who is familiar with the area that I could paddle with. If I can’t find that then I am looking for someone to run one of the published runs with. So that their will be someone to throw a rope (to me or them) or at least someone to tell the rescue crew where the body is if something goes horribly wrong.
I am a solid III/IV boater and have refused to do V's until I had a creeker.
I will be driving up to Ukiah on June 30th, I will be definitely be hanging with my brother on the 4th. So I will be available to do a river run or two in the days in-between. I will be heading over to the Fort Bragg area one of the days to get some Surf Kayaking in and do some abalone diving.
Thanks for the reply,
Sage

The Trinity @ a scheduled 2,400cfs release is probably the only one of those that will be runnable, might even be too low already now, but check:

Pigeon Pt. is good fun, and you can do mutiple runs in a day more easily by putting in just above the Slot (first Class III rapid, it's just down from a gravel pullout/parking area near a straightaway on Hwy. 299 less than a mile up from Hell Hole).

I think you would find Pillsbury Run to be a lot of fun. Lots of play spots.
As far as the Russian, the run is pretty boring. The class III entrance is fun, but there are no good rapids after that at low water. Higher water would be a riot. But seeing as your close, the Russian is a good scenic run with wildlife and such. It's worth checking out because it's so fun.

pilssbury at 300. not much play. lots of rock bashing and flatwater. if you want to run these runs, you have to do them when it is raining. trinity will be the only thing running but is over 4 hrs away.

looks like the trinity is the only one still going off. so it looks like a drive. It is a small one compaired to the drive from LA. :peace:
