Hey! I'm a SoCal resident that is looking to make frequent trips up to the Kern, Kings, Kaweah, etc., this season. I'd consider myself a Class III+ paddler looking to improve dramatically with a good string of days on the water. Looking for some regular paddlers to hook up with.

How about hitting the East or West Fork of the San Gabriel for a day? Getting out of town is tough for me and I may be able to get out for the day and hit one of the above. You may also try Middle Piru. Some on this board have done it in the last few weeks and it is a fun all day trip. My back is not up to spending all day in a boat or I would be up for it. The runs on the San Gabriel are II-III. Let me know if you are interested and I may be able to get away for an afternoon.

Kellymoe, wmcbrier, have you run the San Gabriel? I never have and would like to check it out. I'm tied up until the weekend of May 12 with an outside chance of a weekday free between now and then. I also plan on numerous Kernville trips May-July.

a couple of us will be on the kern this weekend (Sat/Sun), probably doing powerhouse, cable, limestone, brush, etc... open to meeting up with people in the park.

I have run all the forks of the San Gabriel several times but not in the last few years. The East Fork has a longer season than the West Fork and they are both very distinctive. The wf is pool drop and the ef is constant gradient. Niether are too difficult except at high water. The Main San G. is also doable and can be run when they release water from the dam. It's pool drop with a few fun play spots. I may be able to get on one or both of the forks next week if anyone is interested.

I think that next weekend... may 6,7 i will be tryin to round up a few people to head up to the kings... not the hardest run, but tons of fun in a playboat when its runnin 4000+... anyone interested....

hey sage, i wrote up a tiny TR here:

The EF San Gabriel is probably running still right now due to yesterday's rain, but I doubt it'll be still going in June to be honest. It was about as low as I'd want to do it 2 weeks ago. (assuming no more rains) Kevin Mocracek on here mentioned maybe paddling it tomorrow after work, and that's a possible option... I can't find any flow guages above the reservoirs where the East Fork is. There is an hourly rain map that the CDEC puts out some rainfall information (linked from Charles Fosters Somewhere Out There kayaking website).
